When enemies of Islam compelled to leave Makkah, he migrated towards Makkah and started preaching Islam there. 10 AH was the time when Hajj was made compulsory for Muslims. In 10 AH (632) Holy Prophet Hazrat Muhammad (PBUH) went towards Makkah with his companions to perform Hajj. He started his journey on 25th of Dhu-al-Qidah from Madinah. It was the first and last Hajj of Holy Prophet. Before it he performed two Umrahs but he performed only a single Hajj. As it was the last Hajj of Holy Prophet it is called the “Farewell Hajj” of Holy Prophet. He showed his whole act of performing Hajj to all the Muslims.
Wearing of Ihram:
Before entering into Makkah Holy Prophet decided to wear Ihram at Miqat for Hajj. Hazrat Muhammad showed the way of wearing Ihram to all the Muslims. It consisted of two pieces of white cloth. All those activities he performed, also showed to all of his companions.
Performing rites of Hajj:
After wearing of Ihram, Holy Prophet entered into Makkah to perform the rituals of Hajj. First of all he performed the Tawaf of Holy Kabah. He kissed the Black Stone and started taking seven rounds of Kabah in anti-clockwise direction. He completed seven rounds around the Kabah and in each round he prayed to Allah for the welfare of his Ummah in this world and the world hereafter. After performing Tawaf he offered two Rakahs of Nawafil in the Maqam-e-Ibrahim. Then he drank the water of Zamzam from Zamzam well.
Sa’eey:
After the Tawaf of Kabah, he went to mounts Safa and Marwa to perform Sa’eey. He showed the whole procedure of Sa’eey to all the Muslims. Muslims followed him. He ran seven times between these two hills. Sa’eey is performed in the commemoration of act of Hazrat Hajir.
Throwing stones at three pillars:
Then the Holy Prophet threw stones on the three pillars. It is also the Sunnah of the Holy Prophet to throw stones at three pillars.
Sacrifice:
After performing all these rites of Hajj he went to sacrifice the animals. He sacrificed 63 camels there.
Shave:
In the end, all of them got their heads shaved. It is also the Sunnah of the Holy Prophet. It is one of the rites of Hajj.
Last sermon:
He delivered his last sermon on this occasion. This sermon was delivered in the ground of Arafat and Holy Prophet stood on the mountain of Arafat. At that time the last verse of the Holy Quran was revealed. In this verse, Allah said to him that I have completed Islam today and I have chosen it as the religion of Muslims. In his last sermon, he told that all the Muslims are equal. No one has priority over the other. Priority is only on the base of Taqwa in front of Allah.
